When it comes to smartphones, there always seems to be a battle between Apple and Samsung. Every time there seems to be two similar phones from both brands taking a showdown in the market. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently going up against Apple's iPhone 6S. The S7 has emerged victorious to be amongst the very best Android smartphones, even against Note 5, Xperia Z5 by Sony and the outgoing 6S.
Even though it is expected that iPhone 7 will replace the 6S soon, the competition between it and Galaxy S7 remains stiff in the few months before the launch. Of course, there are so many elements playing out in the competition with some of the obvious phone features for both being battery life, display, quality of body, design, performance and even the camera features on each. When a closer look into these features is done, it becomes easy to tell whether the Galaxy S7 makes a perfect alternative for iPhone 6S.
Performance
Processor
The galaxy S7 has custom octa core 2.3GHz Exynos 8890 chipset and 4GB RAM, whereas the iPhone 6S has a dual core 1.8GHz A9 processor and 2GB RAM. This certainly makes the S7 sound powerful, but the 6S puts a good fight. For instance, when it comes to gaming experiences where both perform at compelling speeds regardless of the difference.
Battery life
The S7 seems to pull ahead here. When tested in continuous video playback at 170cd/m2 screen brightness, the S7 lasted 17 hours and 48 minutes whereas the 6S lasted 11hours and 18 minutes. The S7 will therefore last you longer even when under heavy usage and appears more reliable.
As far as performance goes, iPhone 6 maybe offer faster graphics and single core CPU performance, but the battery life superiority of the S7 remains more important.
Build and Design
Materials
The front and back of S7 is Gorilla Glass coated and it also has a metal frame. The 6S on the other hand has a chassis that is all metal aluminum. The 6S therefore have no issues when it comes to picking fingerprints like the S7 but it lacks a MicroSD slot of S7 hence it is not possible to upgrade storage capabilities. Both phones have fingerprint reader but S7's reader is fairly temperamental. The dustproof and water resistant nature of Samsung S7, however makes it more exciting because it can survive 30 minute water-submerge. Toilet drops are therefore less problematic with the S7 compared with iPhone 6S.
Dimensions
The Galaxy S7 measures 142x70x9mm and the iPhone 6S is much smaller at 138x67x7.1mm. It means that the S7 is a few millimeters wider and taller to the 6S and weighs a little more at 152g and the 6S at 143g. In the build and design the S7 again wins.
As far as display goes, the S7 has a technically superior display, but 3D touch of 6S is just as useful hence they draw on this. The camera on S7 offers better images to the 6S so it's definitely another win for the Galaxy smartphone.
