With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan taking thousands of men and women away from their loved ones, the Lifetime TV series “Army Wives” seems to have struck a chord with viewers, whether they are military people or the general public.
When “Army Wives” launched in June 2007, it gained the largest audience for a premiere in Lifetime's history and continued to attract excellent viewing figures for a comparatively small cable network.
It was brought back for a second season starting June 2008, and season one is available on DVD.
The show features the lives of four army wives and one husband and how they cope with the stress of knowing their loved ones are in danger fighting for their country overseas.
Strangely, the TV show was based on a non-fiction book by Tanya Biank, titled “Under The Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives.”
Cast is as follows:
Kim Delaney plays Claudia Joy Holden
Catherine Bell plays Denise Sherwood
Sally Pressman plays Roxy LeBlanc
Terry Serpico plays Major Frank Sherwood
Brian McNamara plays Bgdr. General Michael Holden
Brigid Brannagh plays Pamela Moran
Drew Fuller plays Specialist Trevor LeBlanc
Wendy Davis plays Ltnt. Colonel Joan Burton
and
Jeremy Davidson plays Staff Sgt Chase Moran
The series seems set to continue for a long run and has perhaps hit a nerve for hundreds of thousands of real life wives and husbands whose partners are serving in the armed forces.
The music played on Army Wives is varied and focuses mainly on lesser-known artists but the exposure they get on the show will help them become established favorites. An Army Wives soundtrack is expected to be released in the near future.
