Useful Vocabulary and Phrases

tama
—————————————————————-
Tama means “round object” or “jewelry.” When a noun precedes it, then we pronounce it dama. Please note that we cannot use tama by itself to mean “coin.” The word for coin is kooka (“hard money”).

Expressions from Today's Dialogue

- ichi-en dama “one-yen coin”
- go-en dama “five yen coin”
- hyaku-en dama “five hundred yen coin”

Satsu or o-satsu means “bank note.” The O in O-satsu is an honorific prefix. However, when an amount of money such as sen-en, go-sen-en, or ichiman-en precedes this word, the honorific o is not necessary.
